After buying a used 1994 camaro 3.4 for my son, we drove it for 2 months before the problems started.
The first thing i noticed was the fuel pump was noisy, so i figured it was on its way out.
Then, i noticed the idle all of a sudden was idling at around 2,000 rpm and wouldn't come down from there. (No noticeable vacuum leaks).
Next, was the car would only start after cranking for about 10 seconds and i had to depress the accelerator as well. (found gas in the vacuum line leading from the fuel pressure regulator.)
The brake pedal pulsated heavily upon braking.
Noticed the ABS and AIRBAG lights on as well.
All of these issues were within a week of each other.
Ordered all new brakes for the car, installed everything, then went to bleed the brakes and noticed no fluid at the rear.
Found the car to have a poor ground to the ECM, causing the ABS to malfunction. This repair also fixed the AIRBAG light issue.
Next, i ordered a new fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, idle air control valve and throttle position sensor.
Installed everything, reset the computer and everything seemed fine.
That was until the car sat for a half hour, then tried to restart it and found the same problem where the car didn't want to start right away. I had to press the gas pedal for it to start. Once started, it kept stalling.???
I already replaced everything that could have caused that issue, (I thought).
After looking more closely at the vacuum harness that connects the EGR, intake, fuel pressure regulator and PVC systems; I found the soft connections to be very hard and even found a split up the boot that connects to the intake right in front of the Fuel pressure regulator.
I also found the brake booster check valve to be very loose in the bushing at the booster.
So here's what I ordered: Which is the entire vacuum assembly pictured above. (part #1)
The vacuum harness for the engine crankcase. Part# 10217828
Vacuum power brake booster check valve kit Part# 19181416
These parts can be found at Nallygmc.com or gmpartsdirect by searching the part numbers. I got everything i needed for $32 shipped to my door from gmpartsdirect.
After installing the complete vacuum line harness and brake booster check valve and bushing, i reset the computer by removing the negative battery terminal for a minimum of 30 MINUTES, to reset the computer's memory completely.
Now the car is trouble free and starts every time like it should and runs like it should.
I know i spent countless hours online trying to find the vacuum harness for this car. And you can not find it at any auto parts store either.
I hope this helps anyone else who is having similar issues with their 20 year old Camaro.
Be sure to check your vacuum lines and fittings, because they caused all kinds of issues with my Camaro.
