1992 Chevy silverado 4x4?

1992 1/2 ton silverado 4x4 with a 350. Tranny jumps out of gear when shifting between first and second. It will jump out but then you can put it right back int o gear and its fine. Its also shifting hard into second gear. The shift lever on th steering column is a bit sloppy. Any ideas????

you have to check the various joints that are associated with the shifter system. the fact that there is so much slop is not putting the trans fully into the gear and this is the issue for the slips.
