I just replace a rebuild head on my engine (2.2L 4 cyl), after putting everything back together the engone wont start. Prior to taking it apart, the engine was running, when i tried to start the engine there is no fuel going to the injector rail, does anyone have any idea why the pump is not working? i appreciate the help, thanks.

did you check for a blown fuse? did you leave any part of a wire harness not connected?

checked all fuses under dash, none is blown. re-checked all wiring connectors removed and everyone is in place. Does anyone have other suggestions?

Dont you have a seperate box in the engine compartment? You turn the key to the run position and hear nothing? You checked the wire harness going to the fuse box where the fuel pump relay is located, made sure you didnt partially pull it out while doing other work.

I have checked all wires disconnected during work and all wires removed has been reconnected. the fuel pump relay is working, the fuse is not blown, the relay energizes for approx 2 mins and turned off (pump prime) with key in run position. The PCM is doing what it supposed to. I even jump the relay from the constant power supply terminal to the load terminal then check for voltage at the fuel pump connector by the tank, no voltage reading. According to my research there is supposed to be a fuel pump test lead on GM vehicle where you can apply a direct 12V source to test the pump, i am not sure where this lead is. I am thinking the pump might be bad but before removing the tank i want to eliminate all other possibilities. I even jumper the oil pressure switch but still no fuel from the line connected to the fuel rail. it appears as if no voltage is getting to the pump.

Hey ZORA, what separate box are you referring to? The fuel pump relay is located on passenger side under hood behind strut, mounted on fender. There are three relays together.

If those relays all have the same number on them, try swapping one with the other.

I tried swapping relays, they all work the same. 12 volts is available to the grey wire that leads to the pump, according to the wiring diagram. However, I am not getting any volt reading at the pump connector underneath the car. I put a 12v source directly from the batt. to the pump-(gray wire) but the pump still does not work. none of these wires were disconnected prior to working on car. according to wiring diagram, there is 12v available to the fuel pump when the oil pressure sw closed during cranking. i even jump this sw which should provide 12v to pump connector, but no voltage is present. Any ideas from anyone? this is getting very frustrated.

Sorry man, I'm not familiar enough with GM products to know where to begin with that. If it's not a bad fuse or relay, it's got to be a broken wire. Double check your fuse box and make sure there are no other fuses labeled fuel or fuel pump.

Thanks to everyone for their input. Further troubleshooting has led me to determine that I have a bad fuel pump. After all, its only 20 yrs old. once I replace it I should be back in business. thanks again to all.

Thanks to everyone who responded with a suggestion. Further troubleshooting has led me to determine that the fuel pump is bad. Once replaced, I should be back in business.

thanks for all your input. it turned out the pump was bad, replaced it and all is working well. however, recently about a month ago i drove the car to a friend, parked for about an hour when i left for home the car started to run rough and has no power when i tried to accelerate. i was able to make it home at about 35 MPH. it seems like the converter may be clogged up. i remove the intake manifold and it was very wet from fuel. not able to remove catalytic converter due to rusted and broken mount bolts. Any idea what might cause this other than my assumption about the converter?

Take off your oxygen sensor on exquast manifold and if it runs bad out of hell...more than likely it gonna b your catalytic converter is plugged... Pressure has nowhere to go but backwards in the fuel getting sprayed back into the intake... Or you have a injector stuck open...
