Hello,
I recently bought a 1991 Chevy Lumina APV with 105,000 miles. I drove it 200 miles with no issues. Today, I had some trouble. First the aftermarket stereo shut off, then the blinkers stopped working, then the engine started to stumble and surge with rough idle upon stopping. The speedometer climbed from 35 to 60 even though I was holding steady at 35. The gas gauge went down to a half tank then back to full and etc., and the oil pressure gauge was all over the place. When I got home and turned it off, it wouldn't start. I jumped it, it ran fine, and now it starts on its own like nothing happened, all accessories including the stereo working, smooth idle. BATTERY light came on briefly once then turned off. Thoughts? I'm wondering if there is a bad relay, bad voltage regulator, or maybe the alternator itself is going out. Possibly the aftermarket stereo was wired wrong and is causing parasitic draw. Any theories are greatly appreciated.
