bad fuel economy but runs great Anybody have suggestions as to why my 88 Chevy Nova is burning about 1qt oil each 150 miles, blows white smoke especially on start up and gets about 18 - 24 mpg depending on city/hwy. The weird thing is that the car seems to run well and have been driving it a few months now and haven't had any problems.. It also idles without any problems.. I changed the spark plugs and gave it a fresh oil change about 1k miles ago.. also added NoSmoke/Stop oil leak additive to oil but I don't believe it helped any. Thanks!

Do you mean white smoke or bluish white smoke? If you are burning white smoke that would be coolant leak (blown head gasket).

but given you are burning oil, it is probably bluish white smoke. Your piston rings are worn, or the seals in the valves are leaking.

Do a compression check. If the compression is fine, then your seals on the valves are leaking.

good Luck...
