1983 suburban 4x4 127000 miles!

Hello all my first post I just traded a old Polaris for this ride http://boise.craigslist.org/cto/1410490155.html But my question is when I change gears from 2 to 3rd gear the engine will cut out for a second or two I have noticed some small loose hoses laying arround!
