I'm getting a 1977 Chevy Nova with a 350 put into it. Not the stock 305, I plan on doing work on this vehicle but I just want turn her on to hear it and identify some problems. Well should i wait and drain the gas, trany, oil and all fuilds and replace for new one before i try it. On top of that is there any parts i should try and replace that are guaranteed to be bad. Any advice helps. I think i know what to do but i want be sure

I agree with a lot of what Motox said, although, if you take the plugs out, you needn't pull the distributor. Just turn it over until you have oil pressure and then reinstall the plugs and get the wires back on the right plugs (correct firing order).
