My 75 Corvette shut off today after running for about 2 hours. Fluid levels were all good, it wasn't overheating. I pulled off the side of the road and sat for about 5 minutes, tried to crank it and it started after turning over a couple of times.

I stopped and checked everything again, spent about 20 mins. Drove about 40 more miles and it did the same. Its like its sputters and shuts off. It did this off and on for the next 2 hours. I made it to my destination. It runs and sounds fine other than the sputtering and shutting off. Wait a few minutes and it cranks back up.

Any idea what this could be? I have about a 6 hour drive back home in a few days, can I drive it home and deal with my local mechanic or does it need to be looked at immediately?

It sounds like the fuel sock in the fuel tank is the problem. This "sock" is a filter that was installed in late model cars. It is a mesh cloth type filter. Yes you could drive it home. However you will still experience the same problem. You could also check the inline filter and change that.

Good luck,

Bill
