03 z71 suburban needs overhaul

I have a 03 Suburban, Texas it's whole life, clean and rust free w 183k miles. Motor and tranny wore out, going to put rebuilt motor & trans and keep it, new ones are too expensive.

09 and newer Suburbans have a 6 speed automatic. Can I put one in my 03? would it require a new computer? and or gear ratio change?

Anyone know of a reputable shop in the Cedar Rapids, Iowa area to have this work done?

I'm not rich, I have one shot at using the money I have to get my wife's Suburban rebuilt and back into tip top mechanical shape. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

that is not compatible computer wise with an 03, get the correct transmission for the 03.

I understand the stock computer from the 03 wouldn't work, but couldn't I replace the computer with a 09 or newer and use the 6 speed transmission?

Are you saying an 03 engine and an 09 transmission? how are you going to get a computer that can run both?
