Hello fellow veiwers,
i have a problem with my suburban. When starting engine in cold weather it will hardly run. After it warms up it runs a little better. I unhooked the maf sensor and now it starts great and runs great. It has lots of power and shifts good too. Gas milage is normal. I have been driveing it this way for 3000 miles so far
with no problems. My question is , will it hurt anything to leave maf sensor unhooked ? I was wondering if the knock sensor would
still be functional. Thanks in advance to any replies, j.c.

I wouldn't have thought you gas mileage would still be okay - I guess the PCM is using stored data to do the air/fuel mixture calculations.

I guess if you're not seeing any other problems you'd be okay - but if it were my burb I would change the sensor out.

I don't think the MAF would affect the knock sensor - it's looking for vibrations coming from the cylinders.

I'm wondering if you have a bad temperature sensor, no check engine light on?

Mine was doing somewhat the same thing. In cold weather it ran horrible for a while. After it warmed up it would run somewhat better. I replace the MAF sensor, didn't change a thing. That thing was over $100
Anyways... kept on like that for some time. I finally gave in and had it diagnosed. Turns out I had a leaking intake manifold gasket. They ran a smoke test and showed me the smoke coming out.
I did the repair myself, saved myself around 600 bucks too :)

I was getting a check engine light on as well. All kinds of codes. Turns out it was the just the intake...

Good luck and let us know how it goes
