00 Chevy Malibu, gas leaking from pressure release under the hood?

smelled gas fumes after starting the car found gas under the hood coming from a pressure release valve (or so i was told that's what it was) does that sound correct? what caused it? is it expensive to fix? and is the car still driveable?
