Silverado lockout

My 2019 Silverado LD locked me out with the keys in the ignition. My wife had inadvertently hit the power lock when she got out and closed the passenger door. My door was already closed. Road service got it opened for me.

I tried several times to repeat the occurrence when I got home (and had spare set of keys)
It locked me out every time.

Called dealership and they had no explanation except that it might be related to the trim package. ??

Wondering if anyone else has had this issue and if so have you found a solution.

Went into settings and changed each lock setting (there were only 2) and tested. Nothing changed.

I then hit restore factory settings (bought truck used w/14k) thought previous owner had changed settings maybe.

Tested again and now can’t lock myself out from driver side, but still can from passenger side.

Since this issue first began, I have gotten into the habit of always pulling keys and pocketing no matter where I am.

Frustrating.
Maybe I need to call a dealership in a larger city and talk with service. Live in a small town.

So to be clear the key is left in the ignition, the driver door is closed, and the passenger hits the lock button and closes the door? Do you have delayed locking active?

Just tried it both ways - delayed locking active and inactive. Made no difference. Issue is still there.

Called a larger dealership yesterday and spoke to service department. They indicated that it must be a design flaw (engineering).

After the call I was thinking “If that’s the case, it would seem that more owners would be experiencing this lockout issue. “

Still a mystery to me.

Personally I think when you call the dealer you are not speaking to a technician. It's a service writer. The only way you are going to get a definitive answer is by making a service appointment and paying to have a technician check the vehicle.

I have five friends who own Silverados and GMC’s ranging from 2014-2021 which use a key. Explained my issue to them and had them try leaving the key in the ignition and locking truck from passenger side and all locked themselves out. Same issue as mine.

My mothers Equinox I found would lock you out under those circumstances.

I’m beginning to think that anyone who owns a GM product that uses an actual key with electric locks should set up the same scenario and see if their vehicle locks them out. Keys in ignition. Close your door. Lock from passenger side. Close door. See if you would be locked out.
