Hello everyone, I am needing some feedback from those that understand trucks more than I. My truck 06 Silverado hard shifted 1 - 3 gears. Finally it just quit shifting one day completely after warming up. I took it to a transmission shop about a year after it stopped working. I did not drive it during that time. I explained hard shifting and then would drive for about 30 min or so until it warmed up then it would stop shifting at all. It would cool down and then you could repeat. I asked for a rebuild. Just so I could get it up and running.

My engine needed a tune up and with over 330,000 miles eventually a rebuild on it also. But that can wait until the next year.

So as soon as I get the truck back its still hard shifting not as bad but I feel it, hear it, and see it (RPM reve up). Then my son puts truck in reverse it wont go. So take it to the shop he says you have to get the knox sensor fixed its because of that and the tune up. I already changed knox sensors and wires a year prior. Im also not stupid in that the engine did not cause all of that to happen to the transmission. But ok fair enough I give a tune up and change out knox sensors and wires again. Guess what still happening and now reverse has went out twice on me. My daughter was just driving it to school and work about 15 miles round trip 5 days a week. Well the otherday it completly stopped shifting on my son 10 min from home.

I called mechanic last week. Front desk person said they are really busy with customers. Will call me back and 5 hours later i called her back. She then said shed have mechanic call me back. Well it is now 5 days later and no call back. So am I crazy or is the engine causing my truck to not go into reverse and then stop shifting? I mean it just reves up RPM and goes no where. I paid 3500.00 and I feel helpless right now. What can I do?

P.S. Job was just done 02/22

Do you have a check engine light on?
It does not make sense what they are telling you.

Thank you for the response. I have the following now. I did have a knox sensor code cant remember what it was. After the tune up and replacing them I guess it is gone now.

P0449 Stored - Im assuming this is why it takes 30 minutes to fill my truck. Some part attached to the fill neck I assume.
P0032 Stored - Transmission guy told me dont worry about this code. Only the knox sensor ones. I will eventually have to address them I know.

I am at a lose right now. It is still under warranty and I whole heartly believe it has nothing to do with the engine. But please correct me if I am wrong. I can not afford to bring it to another repair shop for diagnosis. This has really taken my car emergency fund money plus some. I replaced the transfer case before replacing the transmission that was almost 2 more grand I paid. That one I was able to do myself. But i know my limits and that is why the transmission went to the professional.

None of those codes will prevent a transmission going into reverse.
Is this a state licensed repair shop?

He has a shop in the middle of the small town we live in. I assume he is but can look into further. I did search reviews ext before taking to him. As I am leary of having folks work on my vehicles. I appreciate the feed back. I will just take it down there tomorrow and speak with him face to face. Thank you again for the feedback.

**Update** Picked the truck up today. Put it in 2 wheel drive. Drove it about 20 minutes and stopped at the store. Was inside about 5 minutes. Jumped back in the truck put it in reverse. You could hear grinding and when I hit the gas it would reveve but not move. This went on for about 4 minutes and then it went into reverse. (I did not keep reving it) But it was still grinding. I put it into drive and you could still hear the grinding but it became more intense with each shift change through gears. I drove maybe 2 minutes and it started grinding and when hitting the gas just reved. I coasted to the side of the road. I put it into park could still hear the grinding and then put it into 4x4 auto. Grinding ended and I was able to drive home. I am so confused right now on whats going on. I can not recreate this on demand and it is like I am making it up but I 100% am not crazy and even recorded a 6 second video of it. Granted cars were passing bye but you can hear it. I returned home put it back into 2 wheel drive and did qnother 15 minute drive qnd could not recreate it. Can someone please help me understand what is going on. Below is what the shop owner said. I am a timid woman and I do not want to ruffle feathers but I am at a loss right bow.

He stated they replaced a valve, it was low on transmission fluid, and they replaced a couple other things. I could not hear what he said. No paperwork given for the work he did today. I asked if he heard what I was talking about. He said a misfire is what he heard and that can be attributed to the o2 sensor codes. I am not hearing or feeling a misfire. I feel hear hard shifts, grinding, and then reving when hitting the gas when the grinding is happening and transmission is not working.

Any feedbqck would be gratefuly appreciated.

Can't diagnose over the internet the cause of grinding. Either take it back to them or find another shop.
