I have a 2003 Chevy Cavalier LS coupe, 2.2 ecotec, 5 speed. The other day I went out to start my car (I had driven it the previous evening without any issues whatsoever, so sounds, nothing) And it wouldn't turn over. You can hear the starter turning but it doesn't turn the engine over. You can hear the fuel pump priming when you turn the key in the ON position. I had the battery tested, pulled the starter and tested that (and while it was out I checked my fly wheel), and for the heck of it tried to push start it. Nothing worked, I checked the fuses and the fuel pressure, everything checked out fine. I replaced my spark plugs and even changed out the neutral safety switch. If anyone knows what the heck this could be any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks!!!!

If the starter is spinning but not turning over the engine either the starter bendix isnt engaging or you have a broken flex plate. If the engine is turning over and wont start, is your security light staying on?

The security light does not stay on and when we had the starter tested the parts store guy said the bendix was shooting out.

something isnt right here. You say you have a neutral safety switch which is typically on an automatic yet you tried to push start it, you cannt push start an automatic. So back to the starter, if all you hear is the starter spinning very fast you are back to the bendix not engaging or ring gear on the flex plate being broken.

Just because the bendix extended when they tested it, doesn't mean the starter is good. The trick I learned on GM starters was to hold a wooden handle against the bendix when testing it. If it's got a weak or broken spring, the pressure from the handle would keep it from kicking out. If it shot the handle out of my hand, then I knew it was good. I suspect that you've got a broken spring in the bendix. With no pressure on it, it will still kick out. Once you put it back in and it hits the flywheel, it can't spin because the spring is broken. That's the only thing I can think of.
