I've found a 1993, 1995, 1996, and a 1997 Chevrolet Suburban with 7.4L or 454 ci V8s around my area and I was just wondering what type of fuel economy these guys get with 4x4? Estimates would be fine. Just curious. Well, thanks.

If fuel economy is a consideration, don't even think about a Suburban with a 454. It will probably never get better than 10 MPG.

a big block chevy suburban 4x4 you would be lucky to get 8 -10 mpg

At best you will get 10 miles per gallon on the highway and that is most likely going to be with the wind behind you and going down hill. You don't get a Big block for fuel mileage you get a big block for just pure raw torque.
If you want better mileage and need the power for pulling get a diesel. If you do not do much towing then get a small block.

I get a solid 13-15 in my BBC equipped 1999 K2500 Suburban. Pull the trailer and it drops but it pulls it with ease. I will agree if you are worried about the mileage not only is a bigblock not what you want you might need to rethink the Suburban. Not really at the top of the gets good mileage lists.

If the diesel was available I would consider it but since it isn't I make due with a gasser. Good luck with your purchase.

I just got a tank in at 15mpg. I will give ya that this was at a steady 70mph on the highway. Around town we usually get 13 or so. If I pull our trailer it dips down to 8-10 depending on the wind.

As stated if you are worried about the mileage a BBC powered Suburban probably isn't for you. If you need to tow and haul and need/want the power it is my choice and I think it is a good one.

No diesel I would want is available in the Burb. If GM saw fit to put a Duramax in I would consider it but until then I'll make due with the gasser.
