Will the 2008-2009 Chevy Malibu have steering problems like the 2004-2007 model?

GAWD; I hope not. I have an '86 Malibu Maxx and the only thing that hasn't been replaced on my steering assembly is the actual steering wheel. Because the car has electrically assisted steering instead of hydraulic steering there are sensors in the steering column to indicate the position of the column in relationship to the electric assist motor.

Here's the kicker. The sensors are not serviceable parts. If they fail you have to replace the steering column. And, of course, when you get the car back you discover a load of squeaks and rattles that weren't there before the dealer ripped you car apart to replace the column.

And the BEST PART. You try to unload the car back on your selling dealer and he offers you NOTHING for trade in value because he knows the cars history and wants no part of it. I took my concerns to GM customer service and all they could offer was an extended warranty - at full price, of course.

All the while that this was going on I was negotiating for a brand new SIERRA 4x4 crew cab. I walked across the street and with the GM dealer watching, purchased a new FORD 4x4 pickup instead.

I am done with General Motors - they will never see another dime from my pockets.
