I recently got a 1996 2.4 liter automatic Chevy Cavalier with 168,000 miles.
It drove great but after a few days I had to replace the Alternator. It had stalled a few times at stop lights that day.
After this it drove great but then the stalling came back and it needed to be jump started on two occasions as it would not start.
The battery was checked and was faulty so was replaced yesterday and now starts better. The stalling has not gone away though.
It has plenty of power on start up but sometimes struggles like it is not getting fuel. When it does this the check coolant level light stays on. Coolant level is fine and the car never overheats.
The stalling happens only when the car is idling. If it is in park or drive it still happens. Car idles around 600rpm. Today, while at a stop light it jumped like it was going to stall but didn't.
Anything I can check or do to try figure out what it may be.
When the car is driving it drives great. Drove 2 hours the other day without a hitch. So the problem is intermittent.
Need any more info just ask.
