I just took off down the road when it backfired real hard twice then almost everything went dead. All the dash and anything that would make it restart quit. I still had taillights, headlights and the dinging noise they make when the key is in the ignition and the door is open. Also still had power windows. Got and home and found one wire melted that comes off the starter. I replaced it and it still continued to short out everytime I hooked the battery up. It would cause postive to become negative and the negative side of the battery to become positive when I checked them with a tester light. I messed around with the wiring trying to find the short and now i would unhook the battery and rehook it back up and it sumtimes worked. Once the lcd gauges worked but went crazy and next time they worked. One time could unhook the battery and next time the alarm would go off. One time I followed it to the fuse box and pulled fuses, the taillights and the lcd fuse and it worked temporarly and then I could put them back in and it would worked with them. It would never stay a consist short to be able to follow to the source. Now everything is working again and I can get it to mess up. I'm taking a guess and trying switch out the cmu since it controls most. I don't wanna drive it down the road again waiting for it to quit again. Open for suggestions and where the cmu is even located.
