The 95 Suburban I recently purchased has 350+ miles on the body. After driving it the first time I noticed the steering wheel wasn't straight. I'm thinking no big deal it propably needs an alignment. Then I noticed the steering wheel has a bunch of play in it(@ least an inch withtires on the ground) I want to get an alignment but at the same time I don't want them telling me I need this and that. I'd Rather replace what's bad 1st. Wheel bearings on both fronts have more plan than I like so I know Im replacing both of them. Can anyone shed a little light on the situation? When should I replace the box? I've also tightened it but the steering just gets a little tighter. Still bunches of play.

I didn't know the box could be greased. I bought a manual yesterday and read through it. Didn't say anything about greasing it. I did check the idler and pitman arms. According to the manual and videos on YouTube I didn't see any play. Tie rods look great. The boots aren't torn or anything. I did tighten the steering box, little by little.
Yeah I did that yesterday. While in the air, had my old lady move the steering wheel back and forth (In a hand waving motion) and everything was tight. No play I. Any of the arms. Just play when on the ground. The steering wheels moves like 2 inches before the wheel even moves.
After doing a bit of research I'm convinced its the "rag joint" Seen a video that says an 90's model jeep Cherokee steering shaft would work. Supposedly doesn't have the rubber inserts that flexes. It uses a universal joint instead. I'm going to the local pick our part this weekend and see how it works!
