I have a 71 Chevy Nova with a 350 v8, auto tranny. It has the stock rear in it, I know it's a 10 bolt, but that's it. I'm not a mechanic, I just learn as I go. I would like to get a posi rear, but I have no idea what I need. Is there a specific size or ratio that I need, or can I just get any GM 10bolt posi rear?

No you cannot swap out any 10 bolt posi, first things first you have to find out what ring and pinion you have (there are 3 different sizes) if you use another posi with the wrong ring and pinion you will have to have another drivehaft made, best option truly is a locker, you get 2 tire fire like posi but still have free wheel so your not tearing up tires, and axles non stop like you do with welded spider gears or minispools, check this link I found it very helpful http://www.novaresource.org/axle.htm#1974 Jegs has lockers for about 400$, requires no major mods, and let's you use the original housing, only supposed to take an hour or 2, and presto you've got posi
