i have a 97 chevy silverado z71 ext cab with a 502 big block and this guy thought i could fix his ride...he has the same year and model 143,000 miles but its bone stock besides a dual exhaust
well anyways this is the scenario
its eating up coolant and overheating and the service engine soon light is on
the things i know about this car is theres a part cant remember what it is but its notorious for failing...and hes lucky the engine block and heads are cast iron or it woulda melted by now...i know hes basically roasting the engine and turning the metal cherry red...been there done that...but it really hasnt warped anything on his truck, i also know the coolant could be like turning into a steam and coming out the radiator like that...might be the radiator cap but i doubt it he said its new...the original 350 in my truck blew up when i floored it on the highway about a year ago(im 17 btw so i aint the best auto tech but im pretty damn good) i did a bit of research on it and it was pointless to rebuild it since it reached catastophic engine failure
hes like my cars overheating im like ok ill get it back to you in a few days imma do some tests and ill get it back to you asap so i filled the radiator with some 50/50 coolant since it was dry
so im driving it for about 2 hours(i did this because i was waiting to see if it overheated so it wouldnt do that for him) and guess what? it did
so i let it cool off whatever and i look in the radiator and its dry
so im like ok then lets check for leaks! filled it up again drove a lil bit stopped the car and it wasnt leaking at all so then i thought
lets pull out the code reader thing! since it had the service engine soon light on that would def tell me the prob.
then that broke i dropped it and it cracked in half and i was going to run to an auto store to get another one...they didnt have any...i checked everything and im stumped...what could it be? in the mean time im doing a brake job on it he needs new rotors and calipers and pretty much everything else i couldnt stand driving it since the truck barely stopped i basically told him if he didnt want his brakes done imma send it to my auto teacher and hell make you get the brakes done or the car will stay with him
no
ive checked all that..forgot to mention it
i remember someone saying that the 350 is notorious for blowing out.... blank... so the coolant forms into steam and gets blown out...blank...
the truck runs good just it eats up coolant
THE HEATER CORE
you just saved me on this one i think...i think he was complaining about something leaking on the passenger side imma go outside right now and see..well
if thats the problem you are my best answer
