I've had a coolant leak that I am 99% sure is from my water pump. Its been a very slow leak that Ive had for some time now. The engine does not overheat or anything but every now and then I will get the low coolant level warning. From what I have been reading, I think its the gaskets that have gone bad.
So here's my question....
If I were to take my boat out tomorrow would that put extra strain on the water pump and gaskets? Seeing as that there will be more weight being pulled? ..... Just something that crossed my mind. Its gonna be in the 60's tomorrow, then we get a big freeze for Monday and Tuesday, and Thursday, and so on...
thx

If you suspect the water pump is leaking, I would go ahead and replace it tomorrow while it's warm. IF you get an early start, you should still have a few hours in the afternoon to take your boat out. Personally, I think getting the water pump fixed should be your priority. If it takes a dump when it's below freezing, you are not going to have a good time with the replacement. Been there, done that and it SUCKS. I hate working on a vehicle when it's cold.

I agree. It sucks to have to make repairs in bad weather.

BTW, I'm jealous. Our lake is frozen and we won't be able to go sailing until April or May!

Well, I didn't take the boat out....and I didn't change out the pump either. I've also had to work on cars out in the snow and rain. NOT FUN.
Hang in there VanGo, every day it gets just a little warmer!
