so i will be 18 soon and i always dreamed of getting a stingray i'm guessing rebuilding a damaged one would be the cheapest way of getting one. The problem is i have no experience with car building or welding, i have however worked with a number of power tools and i am a fast learner. where would be the best place to start learning? are there manuals for this sort of thing or websites? am i unrealistic? should i just save up instead and forget about fixing up an old one? do you have any advice?

You will be better off buying one in good condition. If you buy a "fixer upper" you need specific skills to restore an old car (especially a 'vette). I've seen many old corvettes ruined because people who didn't know what they were doing tried to work on them (body / paint). Mechanically they are not that complicated, but if you have no automotive experience, it's pretty hard (& expensive). You'd be better off with a lower end car to start with. Also, you will not find a Stingray, even a fixer upper, for less than $10,000 & it might need another $10-30,000 worth of new parts. Remember, just because it says Corvette on it, it will be more expensive than another average car.

I think it would be a good project to fix up an old Stingray. I wouldn't recommend buying one that required any welding, though. You'll never get a car like that back into good shape. Try and find one with a straight frame and body, but missing the drive train, interior, glass, etc. That would be a reasonable project for a first timer. Frame and body repair is just too tricky for a beginner and you'll never get the project off the ground.
