Viper 5901 install in a 1994 Chevy Silverado?

I am trying to get the remote start feature of the 5901 to work properly. when I try to start from the remote, it acts like it wants to start. dash starts flashing, but nothing else happens. any ideas?

also, when i start from key, my starter will not disengage.
