Need some experienced help.
Just got a "new" 77 Nova, with a 305, in
need of a valve cover gasket replacement.

I go shopping online, and find two
different looking gaskets. See below.
As you can see, the brown pair
have 2 holes adjacent to each other
on one side, whereas the other doesn't.

Does anyone know which of the two
pairs actually is the right one?

Not really, but perhaps the brown pair will fit two different engines, like maybe the 305 and the 307?

if the sites where you found them say they fit your engine, as Chuzz stated, the pair with the double holes is intended for another application in addition to yours. Personallly all else being equal I would buy the set with the 4 holes.

Zora, you don't say why. I looked closer and Chuzz seems correct
because the 4 holes that match the 305 are in their proper places.
It's the adjacent holes that are a bit removed so they can do no harm.

I don't mind buying the brown pair because it's way cheaper. Just
shelling out extra bucks for a car, every time an occasion arises
where products differ in price, makes no sense to me. While it's
true good products cost more, often the pumped up price is just to
make a larger profit.
