I have a 2005 Chevy Cavalier LS that I'm buying a transmission for because the transmission went out a few months ago. The problem is I have to know if the car needs a 7 or 8 hole bell housing transmission, which Chevy used up until June 15, 2004, or a 9 hole bell housing transmission which they started using on June 16, 2004. Now of course it would be easiest to check the VIN and as long as it wasn't made in June of 2004 I would be good, but to my luck it was made in June of 2004. SO my question is does anyone know of a way to find out the exact build date or another way of finding which type of tranny it is without getting under the car?

have you tried going to a GM dealer and asking if they can supply that information based on the VIN? Since the vehicle isnt running anyway why dont you pull the trani and check it?

Could be the 3T40 3 speed auto, the 4T60-E auto, or the Getrag 282 5 spd manual. These all were used in the Beretta as well.
