Okay, I love both of these vehicles. I know they're both completely different, but I'm trying to decide which I want. I've been researching them for a few months now. I have a dog that loves to move around in my car which is annoying with her jumping from the back of my sedan to the front and I want a lot of space (why I like the Rav4). But I also want something with good gas mileage (which is why I like the Cobalt). At the moment I am leaning more towards the Rav4, but I want to hear everyones personal opinions about these vehicles so I can make my final decision.
Also, I've looked at other models outside of Chevy and Toyota, but I just love both the cobalt and Rav4. It's not that I'm not looking at other cars. I've been looking for a new vehicle for about a good year now, because mine is a POS. I just can't decide between the two, which is why I'm asking for peoples PERSONAL experiences with the cars so I can get a better look at things rather than researching their mpgs, engines and etc. I like both SUVs and Sedans, so this is a hard decision for me to make on which I want.

I've owned a 2008 Rav4 since... 2008. The V6 has averaged us 27mpg and we've had four tanks of gas average over 30mpg so it gets great mileage- clearly not as good as the mileage a cobalt will get. I LOVE our Rav and we got it in large part because of our dog- she has tons of room to move.

It boils down to money though. a well equipped Rav4 is about 30 grand and you'll get about 5-10mpg better in a cobalt so the cost will be a lot higher over all. A well-equipped Cobalt is only about 23 grand. The trade-off is a loss of versatility (towing, room for five adults+luggage in the rav, towing, cargo rack) and loss of resale- a cobalt will lose about 50% of its resale in the next 2-3 years. a Rav4 will only lose about 25%...

Lots of information but there is no real "right" answer for this. I absolutely love our Rav and if it got totaled, I'd buy a new one tomorrow without a second thought.
