Thicker transmission gasket ?????

Had transmission serviced at local garage, the trans gasket that came off was a lot thicker then the one that came with the new filter, now the trans is leaking, took it back to the mechanic who retightened the pan bolts, still leaking---any idea's ???????
 
Dude probably stripped out a couple of bolt holes. The torque on a transmission pan is in inch pounds for a reason. You may try going to a GM dealer and getting a pan gasket and see if it's any thicker. A good coat of black RTV on the pan and let it get tacky before installing the gasket. Let it sit for an hour or so and the put the pan back on. If it still leaks, you may have to tap the stripped holes and put larger bolts in them.
 
I had the same experience with a Pontiac G5, NAPA gasket leaked. Replaced with GM gasket no leaks. Certain things are just better original factory.
 
I took truck back to mechanic, who used a thicker cork gasket and a slight film of red silicone on both sides, , he also banged out some bolt holes that had bulged inward. No leaks and no charge except for original service. No fault of the mechanic in my opinion , he's also the best in town. Thank you all for your idea's .
 
Glad to here you got it fixed and it was relatively simple. Sometimes the bolt holes do get stretched from over torquing.
 
on gm transmission pan gaskets not all but most they have reusable pan gaskets they are plastic and do bend or flop i don't use cork never had any luck with them if you change your filter and it has the factory seal wipe it off with a rag no rtv or any thing and put it back on there are different torque specs but i go hand tight with a 1/4 inch ratchet and the side cases on the front wheel drive impala Malibu venture van etc are reuse able if you you have to change a siloniod fyi hope this helps:)
