the brake light came on in my 2000 chevy malibu is that due to low brake

fluid or the brakes are going?
thanks for all the help i went and got it fixed. my computer had to be reset and the front brakes and rotors were shot. as well as the sliders for the calibur were frozen. they fixed it all for a great price!! thank you again
