Steering Gear replacement

I'd like to get every and all opinions on steering gears. I have small drip in the gearbox on occasion, and have been thinking about changing it out in my 1990. I was wondering if the best option is direct replacement or if there are thoughts about upgrades for tighter steering, etc.

Have you considered draining all the PS fluid, replacing with fresh fluid and a sealer? Concerning tighter steering have you had tie rods, center link, idler arm, etc. checked for excessive play?

The first suggestion, I have done and find the sealers don't usually work. The second suggestion, I have not yet looked into-thanks.
