the bolts on my 94 suburban starter sheared off and the corner of the block broke off. I rethreaded the holes and it seemed to work, however the bolts are not holding the starter firmly and starts to make a other than smooth start. I don't want the flywheel to get ground down..tried to heli coil it and again the thread are holding, however after several starts the starter shifts due to the torque..anyone have any ideas?

There's a LOT of torque at that point. I remember in my old GTO, my clutch linkage broke one night. The only way I could get going was to start the car in gear. The starter motor actually drove the car forward until the engine kicked in :(

At this point you may have to weld the starter to the block. I doubt threadlock would be enough.

Maybe the bolts are a little too long now and you need a slightly shorter one. I'd try some grade 8 bolts and perhaps a lock washer and see what happens. If the length is okay, then I'd just try a lock washer on each one.

The starter bolts are specialized knurled bolts, is that what you are using? Are you using a starter nose brace? Did you measure the gear clearance when the bendix gear when it is engaged with the flywheel? It is adjusted using shims between the starter and the block.

where is a starter nose brace found? there appears to be no support bracket available the corner of the block broke off somehow..the bolts are the right ones, they somehow separate from the flywheel after starting a few times..4 mechanics couldn't fix and I am not buying a new block or engine..welding is not an option..

The brace would support the end of the starter and attaches to the block. It is there to prevent the problem you are having.
