Starter Issue

I have a 99 Suburban 1500 4wd. I just had a new motor put in by a friend who owns a shop. From the very start of the first start up after installation the starter did start the truck but it always gave a loud clang and hit hard. I moved two days later so now it has trouble starting. Sounds like it just no longer hits the fly wheel right so it misses starting. I looked at the fly wheel and the outside edge of it is shiney but no teeth missing. Did not have this problem before I put the new motor in.

Any thoughts on what it could be?

Are you sure it's the right starter for that engine?

Yes, I replaced the original starter which was on the vehicle before the engine change. Both starters have had the same problem.

did you shim the starter? sample video the paperclip measurement is what you need for a stock starter
