Spark Plug maintenance

have a simple question, I think.

I am putting in plugs on 2005 cobalt, and wanted to change the boots too. The duralast boots I just got have a small spring in them that does not go all the way through the boot, they go about 1/2 of the way.

Why is this, what am i missing? i would think that the spring would be longer to touch the top of the piece the boot is connected too?

Any other suggestions on doing this maintenance?

The Cobalt came with 2 different engines, are you sure you were given the correct boots?
