Hello All,

2009 Chevy Silverado 2500HD 6.0 Ext.Cab Long Bed

I had a spare key cut at Home Depot, it opens the doors and operates the ignition switch but it no longer starts the truck(it started the first time ), I get a code about the security system.
Anyone know why it quit starting the truck?

home depot sells chipped keys? I dont think so, the key will open the door but not work the ignition.

Home Depot copies most common household keys (Kwikset, Schlage, etc.), but not programmable chip car keys. Car keys with a chip have to be programmed by a machine. The car dealers do it, and some locksmiths do as well. Some Sears stores have a key kiosk in their parking lots that do it while you wait.

So are all keys chipped?

all keys that came with the vehicle from the factory are chipped and the little + on the factory key is the one that can be duplicated.

So does cutting a chipped key cost $75 across the board? Is this a good deal?
