Hey guys, just wanted to ask a rather open ended question. I just purchased a 2012 2500HD 6.0 gas truck almost 2 weeks ago. So far I love it. Well my father in law has an 05 2500 long bed regular cab. He is away in alaska, so his wife asked if I would put some miles on the truck because it has been sitting for about a month, I said sure. My truck is a crew cab short bed with 373's, his has 410's.

His truk just feels like a monster just touching the pedal. Mine feels like there is a significant delay before the power comes on. Now his is harder to drive than mine because the power is there instantly, making acceleration harsh for me and a passenger. My 2012 has no sudden surge of power and is more gradual.

He bought his used with 50k on it, so its hard to say if there is a programmer on it or not, but it sure feels different than mine. His truck is also a 6 liter.

Would his truck being lighter and having 4.10s make this much of a difference or is it something to do with the programming in my truck vs his?

Thanks guys!

Justin

You have a brand new engine which is not fully broken in with only 2 weeks of usage. As you state there is a weight and rear gear difference to his advantage. You dont mention anything about tire diameter but if his are smaller in diameter that will also give a performance boost.

Zora, What would cause mine to be the same way?
2011 Silverado 1500 extended cab 5.3
Sluggish isn't the word. More like a tortoise as I have been in traffic needing to get somewhere safe and floor it just to watch me almost get killed.

How many miles on it? Does the maintenance schedule call for air and fuel filter replacement and you missed it? How much does the vehicle weigh? 5.3 is about 324 CID not too big if it's a heavy vehicle. Assuming it's an automatic is the trani downshifting correctly?

It has 18,000 miles. I assume the weight would be the standard on all Texas Edition extended cabs with the 5.3, 4x2 and six speed trans. As far as shifting it seems smooth.
The one thing that burns me up is the fact that the service guys know there's an issue with this but they use the standard excuse of, Well it didn't throw a code so we can't do anything. Really?

are there any other issues with the trani, such as when shifting into drive? There is a technical service bulletin out for your vehicle covering recalibration of the shift pattern.

No. Sometimes it shifts harsh when I floor the gas. Not sure if it's the gas or tranny.

What's the recall number? I check the Chevy app on my phone and see nothing.

Yeah. When I research that TSB and recall it only gives a vague discription. I will be contact Chevy on Monday.
Any special number I should call? I know the dealer will just tell me the same bs.

there should be a number in the back of your owners manual or you can send a PM (private message) to a member on this site named "Chevrolet Customer Svc". They are a legitimate employee of Chevrolet.

Ha..Took the darn thing to the dealers and they drove it most of the day and no codes. Bad thing is on the way there early this morning the truck ran like it has never run before. It actually acted like a truck that had a PAIR...

So it has at least been in the shop and now they have a record just in case the truck has the same issue. The service manager said it was probably just learning my driving habits as it was purchased with less than 18000 on it.

I have no way to explain it but the excuse he gave does sound plausible.

After thinking about how it was acting I wanted to say it reminded me of when an S-10 I owned responded the same way. I had the mass airflow sensor replaced.

Thanks for everyones input.

what does the owners manual say about gasoline octane and are you following the recommendation?

They checked all that and even tested it for water as they said some area stations have been receiving bad fuel...I was all great results.

zora,
I apologize for my delayed response, I just seen this post. You can PM me directly or email me at SocialMedia@GM.com. Have you spoke with the dealer regarding your concerns? If not, I would definitely recommend doing so. I look forward to hearing from you.
