I've recently acquired a 2000 1500 2 wheel drive, AT, with a 5.3. Upon the first start of the day or after sitting for an extended period, it will fire up on the first turn of the switch. It runs smoothly and idles fine. However, stop to run a quick errand and it takes two or three attempts to get it fired up and even then you have to coax it to get up to idle rpm. After it gets running, it's runs smooth like before. There's no codes displayed from the OBD. Has anyone run across this before and what corrected the problem. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

this describes a problem i am also having exactly. after i changed the fuel filter the truck now exhibits the issue at initial start up but not later after running for a while.

initially when you try to start it takes a few trys to "catch" and then idles roughly for about 3-8 seconds before stabilizing.

very maddening problem, does anyone have a clue?

My 2001 silverado had the same symptoms, and it ended up being the fuel pressure regulator was bad. Mine would start great first tims in the morning but after that it would act up. I pulled the vacuum line off to the regulator and gas came out. If it sat all night the gas would evaporate, but for short terms it would leak into the intake causing it to flood the engine. I had checked mine right after I had shut it off. Since the gas was still under pressure it came out pretty strong. Hope this helps you out.

i think you are right on with your solution. i found this site and it explains how to check and replace fpr.

oddly now mine is starting up and running fine but i think i have an intermittent fpr problem. i will see.

here is the link for anyone interested.
