hey, i want a car that is small, and get's good gas mileage, but has a lot of room in it, since i am a tall guy and i need some extra cargo room as well. This has led me to cars like the PT cruiser and such, i was looking at them all, and i think i have narrowed it down to a Scion XB or a Chevy HHR. Since i am basically car retarded i was wondering if anyone had any info on which car is better, or if you have a better vehicle in mind. i cant afford brand new models, so i am talking about a little bit older ones, like 2005-2008 year. any help is appreciated.

I have driven both of them.

The xB has more headroom, better fuel efficiency, better reliability.

The Chevy has more power, more trunk space, cheaper insurance.

I would choose the xB. More sporty and more fun to drive.

I had a Scion tC which is mechanically the same as the 2nd gen xB. The mileage wasn't good for a small car with a 4 cylinder (about 28 on the highway). Mine had numerous engine problems which were all covered under warranty but left me with a rental car for 1-2 weeks at a time at least once a year.

I traded it for a Chevy Cobalt which is mechanically the same as the HHR. The mileage is better (about 31). The interior isn't as nice. But its had no problems.

I'd get the Chevy. Neither is assembled in the US but the Chevy was designed here so you would be supporting American jobs. The Chevy has far more US parts also.
