Hi--has anyone had a 03 or similar model suburban's roof reinforced to protect in case of rollover? I have read a lot of stories about how the roofs could have been reinforced inexpensively but were not, and they crush substantially.

ideas?

cannt imagine how after the vehicle is assembled there is anyway to inexpensively reinforce the roof.

It's always cheapest to add features during assembly but automakers try to save a buck when they can. There are some famous lawsuits in the past related to this bean counter approach.

You could always have a roll cage fabbed if you are worried. Try and keep the rubber side down :)

I am a very safe driver--I was just quite surprised, I was thinking I was driving a tank. Didn't know about the one weak area. Especially concerning because most of the driving done in the burb is highway with all the kids in the car/trips.

Best place to research of how a suburban reacts to a rollover is a body shop. Talk to the guys at a local body shop. They will know the best installation/rollover protection for your Burb.

What you can do and would benefit you on a daily basis is improve the handling to prevent rollovers. There are typical options like lowering the CG. Heavier sway bars. Better shocks and springs. Wider tires with less sidewall usually improve roll but tend to hydroplane easier. I'm sure there are other ideas to avoid rollovers.
