Recently a mechanic that I talked to told me that you cannot resurface rotors on a 2006 Chevy Cobalt Ls you just have to buy new ones. Now this may be true but, I'm almost certain you can resurface any car rotors no matter what the car. He is the professional so naturally I just threw what I thought out the window. But, I kept thinking about it and it still just seems wrong.

If anyone knows the right answer pleas help me out. I don't want to pay to get new ones.
He never looked at the rotors he was just talking to me at his shop. Never even looked at my car.

u should be able to resurface ne rotors, depending on how thin they r.if there to thin resurfacing them could cause cracks and and fail to stop u on the road

If it is worn past the government safety regulations, it is not serviceable. If it is worn below specifications, it has to be replaced with a new rotor. This has nothing to do with it being a Cobalt. I service Cobalts.

Your mechanic is correct yet so are you. The newer type rotors can not be turned just by any brake lathe. You have to have a newer special lathe that can turn them. For the cost of the lathe verses the cost of just replacing them it is cheaper for you and the shop, and in the long run you have completely fresh rotors verses turn ones.
