Problems with 2007 chevy cobalt?

The "service air bag" light is on...I know I need to take it to the dealer but why would this be on?

The gear shift (automatic) doesnt light up so I cant see what gear im in at night without turning a light on...what could have caused this? something electrical??

The car has 77,000 miles on it and theres no warrenty...we bought it from a nissan dealer (it was a trade in and they were gonna send it to the auction in a couple days so we got a good deal on it)

There is no way to know why the airbag light is one without scanning the computer on the car and finding out what the fault code is.
