Hello everyone My name is Jason. I'm new on here, hell I'm new to the whole caviler scene. I am having some issues with a car I just purchased and I'm hoping you guys may have seen the same issues I am having and hope you can point me in the right direction. Ok so what I have is a standard 1999 cavy with the 2.2 and a 5spd. Manual locks and windows. No power anything. The issues I'm have are when you install the key into the ign, and turn it on, there is no power what so ever to the dash. No lights come on, no guages move, nothing. Not even the headlights or the dome light work. But the fuel pump cycles, the radio turns on, and the blinkers work. Now if I go to start it, it will fire right up for about 2-3 seconds then die. And that's it. It has a brand new battery, all fuses are fine, I have power on both sides of those links or diodes on the two wires coming off the positive side of the starter solenoid. I have tried leaving the battery unhooked for 24 hours, leaving the key in run position for 10 min, and even the turn the key to acc for 11 min then off , then on again for 11 min three times with no success. I also have a hard time trying to get the damn key out of the ign. Sometimes it takes almost 5 min and a bunch of cussing before it lets me have it back. Lol. Anyways nobody in my area seems to be able to give me and answer. Even the local Chevy dealer couldn't tell me anything other than they never seen an issue with the cavilers. I personally was thinking its a key switch but after talking to a parts store, I don't want to take a $300 gamble. I purchased the car with this issue. The guy I got it from said the fuel line froze up last winter so they pushed it into the garage to warm up and ever since then its been like this. So any info and help would be greatly appreciated. thank you.

have you done a fuel pressure test
have you checked for spark at the plugs
the starting problem and the dash problem may not be related
have you carefully checked the engine compartment fuse box including the underside

I haven't checked fuel pressure but after it runs for the 2-3 seconds it dies and has no spark. And I did check all the fuses but not the underside of the fuse box. I can do that when I get home.

I had a friend check it while I cranked it over after it died. But I guess he could be wrong. I can double check it. And as for the security light, nothing on the dash comes on.
