Please help me with my 2001 Chevy Malibu!!!! Please?

Ok, a few weeks ago I ran my little chevy malibu out of gas. So I walked across the street and bought some gas and put it in the tank. When I got back in and tried starting it again I got nothin. It tries to crank itself over, but it just won't catch. I'm wondering what the problem might be. Someone suggested that it might be my fuel filter, but I have no idea what that means. If someone knows anything about this, I would really appreciate an answer. Thanks to all.

I know you're not supposed to run it that low on gas. You think I would do this intentionally? During these econmic hardships, I ran out of money and gas at the same time. I was actually at the bank depositing my pay check after which I was going to drive the whole 24 feet to the gas station and fill up my tank. I am not an idiot, but shit happens bro

Sounds like you burned your fuel pump up. If it is the fuel pump - you need to get it to a mechanic and have it inspected. Also, let this be a learning lesson to you that you should not run your car that low on gas, for just this reason. YOU CAN Damage your car and have to pay high mechanic bills for no reason.

fuel filter or even the low gas won't allow it to start, push throttle to the floor and hod it there turn the key to the run position and with the window down see if you here a humming noise it will last for 2 seconds, if you do then cycle the key off and to the run position several times to pump the gas back up to the injector system. once it has re primed take foot off pedal and crank it over for 5 seconds do this a couple of times it should fire up, if not the filter needs to be changed first then do the same and try again if it still does not work you will need a new fuel pump and it's in the tank, Never run the car below 1/4 tank as the fuel pump is electric and uses the fuel to keep it cool. If there is not enough fuel it will overheat and burn out. You need to put at least 5 gallons of gas in it as the pump will be weak. after running out of fuel. good luck...
