My truck does not shift in to drive properly and wont shift into overdrive at all could this be the kick down cable and is there another name for this part?

yes. There's a bracket beside the throttlebody with a cable running to the trans., squeeze it and ajdjust the linkage forward or back. I'm not sure witch. This should let the trans. shift into the right gear at the right rpm;s. also when you accelerate hard, drop out of overdrive into a lower gear for passing.

it is possible but unlikely. the problem i would look for is your shifter linkage probably needs to be adjusted. the detent cable or more commonly known as the "kick down" cable cannot cause this problem. its job is to downshift the trans into a lower gear from hard acceleration. and on the 700r4 trans it will tell the trans the line pressure vs pedal position to tell it to go into overdrive. you can take it into your local trans shop and they will adjust your linkage for you, if not for free it will be very cheap. under $50 i am sure. another thing that will cause the same things you are saying is the fluid being over-full.
