...transmission in? what does it mean to me? its a 2000 chevy silverado extended cab shortbed 1500. and its lifted 6 inches with 35 swampers on it. the man said he put a 4/10 gear set up in it? or something like that. idk what he means buy that. im not in to engines that much. but im buying the vehical for my son and i want to know what im getting my self into. he 4x4s constantly and to get out where he goes its a far drive. will that do anything to harm the 4/10 thing? plz email me at geterdone4567@aol.com if you have an answer. this will help me so much thank you.

The 4:10 that you're asking about refers to the gear ratio in the differentials. Hopefully this person did front and rear differentials with the same ratios. This will turn the driveshafts coming from the transmission 4.10 rotations to a single rotation of the tires. Thus 4:10 to 1 ratio. With those tires the ratio is good and necessary for the proper torque on the axles for movement. The ratio is terrible for MPG, but it's offset by the extra large tires. He may still have issues with the speedo being correct though. That has to be adjusted by a speedo shop if the truck is older and has manual speed cable. If it's a newer truck, then it can be adjusted with a programmer from a speed shop or aftermarket truck outfitter.

as information when you put larger tires on a truck, putting lower gears in the differentials (both front and rear) is the proper thing to do.

as example, our chevy truck came from the factory with 31" tires and 373 differential gears, when i replaced the tires with 33" tires, the result was lost power, lower mpg, and a blown transmission because the engine was not able to operate in it's designed rpm range. to correct this problem, after i replaced the transmission, i installed 411 gears in the f/r differentials. now our truck runs great, and the engine rpm range is right on with the factory settings. My speedometer is also exact again (55mph on the speedometer is 55mph on the gps).

having the 410 gears is good and will help the truck drive down the road.

hope this helps
