I have noticed that my 1974 Nova speedometer makes a rattling noise when driving 30 or faster. At 55-60 its a constant grinding , rattling nose. No loose screws, I think the cable is making the racket as its turning inside the liner. Has anyone has this happen. I am thinking if I could somehow force some wd-40 inside the cable maybe it would stop.

they make a special graphite lubricant for speedometer cable but you dont want the lubricant traveling into the actual speedometer so dont get carried away with how much you put on the cable. Below is an example
