Heres the deal 2004 burban 150,000 miles. just bought the truck and its making a noise while driving sounds like an old bicycle chain. also tried putting in 4wd works great but when in 4wd makes a popping sound its my wifes car and she said today it felt like the trans slipped. should i look at the transfer case or someone mentioned u joints. How do i check those?

ok crawled under it today and everything is nice and tight except where the rear driveshaft connects to the transfer case. the shaft coming out of the transfer case has play in it. what causes this?

If, you transfer case is the same as the one on my 2002 Silverado then you may have had the infamous pump rub. Are there any signs of leakage? My best advice would be to go to the diesel place forum and do a search for "pump rub". There you will find all the info needed to fix your problem. Good Luck!
