my 1987 chevy silverado seems not to be sucking gas from the tank,and wont start?

i took the air filter off and put a littlle gas in carborater and it started right up. so im gessing its somthiong to do with the fuel pump or the fuel filter .....any suggestions? or refrences ?

I believe an 87 was fuel injected. (a throttle body that kind of slightly resembles a carburettor) That will not suck gas from tank. There is an electric fuel pump inside the tank. Based on age of vehicle save for having fuel filter regularly changed, Pump is most likely not operating.

That would either be a blown fuse (not delivering current to the pump) Clogged fuel filter or bad fuel pump
