Hi all,

2 questions regarding my 2001 Chevy Suburban 1500 5.3L.

1) I just changed the oil and noticed after all the oil was drained that I had mistakenly bought 5w-20 instead of 5w-30.

In total I used 6 qts: 5qts of 5w-20 and 1 qt of 5w-30...

Is mixing oil like this okay?

I've always used 5w-30, will the truck be alright with the 5w-20?

2) I notice when draining my oil that a dust cover was missing from the transmission.

Could someone please tell me what this part is so I can replace it?

I notice a large gear is exposed due to this missing cover, could this lead to issues down the line if I don't replace it? I'm trying to understand if it is urgent.

A photo is attached.

Thank you so much for any help you can offer :)

on an older engine going to a thinner oil is probably not the best thing to do. If it was my engine I would just change the oil again.
can you provide more information on the transmission, automatic, manual, 4wd, 2wd, etc. It looks like an inspection cover on the bell housing

Thanks Zora!

Exactly what I needed to hear, I'm just gonna bite the bullet and buy another 6 qts of oil.

It is an automatic 2wd transmission.
