we have a 2006 cobalt LS 2.2 litre. Took apart the passenger side wheel, brake calipur, Rotor. First we all thought it was the CV joint. Took a good look at it and seems fine. Second was the Sway bar rubbing. No luck on rubbing from that. Now the issue is when acel from 40 kilo's an hour + it gets louder, kinda like a airplane noise when it takes off and slows down. Its not a rubbing noise but like a constant low pitched whine. Also checked timing belts and thats all good. Anyone have any answer to what could be wrong with the front end? Also we checked the seals on the trans axle and the seal is still in tact. no transmission oil on the sway bar or the CV joint. the issue sounds like its coming from the passenger side of the car. possible a blown strut can make this noise?
we thought that to but it all shifts fine, no slipped gears or anything. BTW it is a auto. but we know as a fact it cant be the diff or anything like that. lets hope not :(

with the wheels on, jack up your car so the wheels are free... grab the top and bottom of the tire and try to rock the wheel back and forth, see if there is any play in it. It sounds like a bad hub bearing from what you describe. Also, spin the wheel while holding on to the strut spring, if you feel any vibration or unevenness, you have a bad bearing. Mke sure you check both left and right because hub bearing noises travel from side to side thru the transmission and the axle shafts.
