Hey all i am boggled by this and hope to find some answers here. I have a 1990 chevy suburban k 2500 series 454 7.4L, Well recently it started to make the jet airplane noise all the time and i figured it was the fan clutch so i changed it out and put the same reverse rotation, believe it was a hayden severe duty which is only one showing at orilleys parts store back on and worked for about a month then started doing it again i have already changed the tensioner and idler pulley and water pump same time i did the first thermal fan clutch swap. Worked good for about a month and back came the jet plane noise i changed it out again and still makes noise so i thought it was alternator cause it was making rough noise still jet airplane noise any ideas? what else it could be. Im ready to try another fan clutch cause i dont know what else it could be. Thanks for your time and help in this matter. every little bit of commentary helps.:D

If the noise stopped when you put the fan clutch on I would go back to that and maybe buy through the dealer. I've recently ran into problems with cheap parts and the only fix I have found was dealer.

Not sure it'll help, but you may try a lower temp thermostat. Or, remove the factory fan from the water pump and install two Hayden heavy duty aftermarket electric fans. they'll only go on when necessary. Also, make sure your radiator is in good condition. If the fins are plugged internally, less coolant will flow and you'll get lower cooling efficiency. I had a truck that constantly overheated after 125,000 miles. Come to find out, the radiator was plugged and needed to be replaced. I do like the idea of genuine GM parts too....good luck!

try isolating the source of the noise using a piece of rubber hose, one end near your ear and move the other end around to find the source of the noise.
